Prime Minister Pledges to Combat Crime and Prevent Foreign Exploitation

Bangkok: The Prime Minister affirmed that the government is ready to protect the public from all forms of crime, emphasizing a strong stance on preventing foreigners from using Thai citizens as nominees for business ventures. This move aims to avoid potential economic issues that could arise from such activities. The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to various agencies for their collaborative efforts.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul led the inaugural meeting of the Steering Committee for the Prevention and Suppression of Technology-Related Crimes and Transnational Crime in 2026. The meeting included participation from significant bodies such as the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, Ministry of Defence, Royal Thai Police, Department of Special Investigation, Anti-Money Laundering Office, National Anti-Corruption Commission, and Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission, among others.

The Prime Minister highlighted that this was the first assembly following the order to appoint the committee on May 11th. A pivotal government policy is to safeguard the lives and properties of citizens from various crimes, including drug trafficking, fraud, terrorism, cyber fraud, and money laundering, ensuring safety for both Thai nationals and foreigners.

He acknowledged the ongoing efforts by government agencies in tackling these crimes, particularly those involving scams, drug networks, and threats to public safety. The Prime Minister appreciated the agencies' commitment, leading to numerous successful cases that have bolstered public confidence in the government's dedication to safeguarding citizens' security and property.

The Prime Minister also noted the rising number of foreigners residing and conducting business in Thailand, often due to regional conflicts. These individuals are engaging in businesses that compete with local enterprises, frequently using Thais as proxies for transactions involving land, real estate, and businesses like hotels, educational institutions, and restaurants. Such practices have led to the formation of independent foreign communities, which could pose significant threats to the economy, society, and public security if not addressed.

The establishment of the committee underscores the government's commitment to addressing all forms of crime, with an emphasis on scammers and transnational crime, to manage and minimize damage effectively.

The Prime Minister reiterated the government's resolve to protect the safety and security of citizens' lives and properties, urging continued commitment to effectively combat cybercrime and transnational crime. This approach is intended to uphold Thailand's credibility, fostering economic confidence, investment, foreign trade, tourism, and international cooperation. Achieving these goals consistently will bring substantial benefits to the nation.
