Bangkok: The Prime Minister has confirmed his unwavering support for the 2017 Constitution, asserting that Chapters 1 and 2 will remain unchanged. He expressed his readiness to abide by the public's decision, regardless of the referendum outcome, and emphasized his intention to avoid campaigning through mudslinging. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister's son, "Pek," was unexpectedly serenaded with a Happy Birthday song by supporters at a market, celebrating his 30th birthday.
According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, addressed the issue of constitutional amendments in a recent interview. He stated that while his party would not interfere with other parties' positions, the Bhumjaithai Party is committed to leaving Chapters 1 and 2 untouched. These chapters, which are essential for maintaining the monarchy's powers, must remain in effect, he emphasized. He also refuted circulating fake news on social media that claimed his party intends to amend the entire constitution, reiterating that the party is content with the current 2017 Constitution.
When questioned about the potential repercussions of some parties not specifying their positions on constitutional amendments, Mr. Anutin noted that without clear positions, the nature of potential interference or infiltration remains unknown. He reiterated that while every party should be transparent, the Bhumjaithai Party would not influence others' stances. Mr. Anutin highlighted that his party supports discussions on amendments related to parliamentary member calculations and corruption penalties, emphasizing a commitment to fight corruption in line with their OECD membership.
Mr. Anutin confirmed that if the Bhumjaithai Party leads the government formation, it would maintain its stance of preserving key constitutional articles. He stressed this declaration has been consistent since 2019 and will continue as long as the party remains active.
Responding to comments about party members Mr. Sihasak and Ms. Suphajee bearing burdens, Mr. Anutin clarified that they are collaboratively working on party policies, which are well-received by the public. He addressed misinformation about the party's competence, stating that they seek individuals with intelligence and ability, such as Mr. Sihasak, who is also a prime minister candidate.
Mr. Anutin reaffirmed his clear communication since the party's policy launch on December 24, 2025, and emphasized the importance of providing accurate information to the public. When asked about another party's lack of a casino policy, he remarked that each party should pursue its policies independently.
Addressing potential political mudslinging, Mr. Anutin stated that the Bhumjaithai Party refrains from such activities and remains uninvolved in defamation or rhetoric, allowing others to act independently of the party.
Finally, reporters noted that during a campaign rally, supporters surprised Mr. Anutin's son, "Pek," with a belated birthday song, adding a personal touch to the political discourse.
