Prime Minister Vows to Combat Corruption Before Considering Retirement

Bangkok:Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced his determination to tackle corruption, suggesting he might consider retirement once his objectives are met. Speaking at the Dinner Talk event titled "Zero Corruption From Polity to Action," he reflected on his long-standing commitment to fighting corruption, mentioning past death threats received for opposing bid-rigging schemes.

According to Thai News Agency, the event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn Nilapraphan, members of the Joint Committee of the Three Private Sector Institutions (JCC), and other relevant agencies. The Prime Minister emphasized the government's intention to bring professionals into the administration, including the appointments of Mr. Ekniti Nitithanpraphas, Mr. Pakorn Nilpraphan, and Ms. Supajee Suthamphan as Deputy Prime Ministers. Additionally, Mr. Witai Rattanagorn was named as the new Governor of the Bank of Thailand.

Charnvirakul, who also holds the position of Minister of Interior, acknowledged his familiarity with the ministry's complexities and loopholes, vowing to address these issues actively. He recounted his business background and personal experiences with government corruption, including threats to his safety and the need for personal security due to the risks encountered from opposing corrupt practices.

The Prime Minister expressed his resolve to settle these issues and his belief that accomplishing his anti-corruption goals would be more fulfilling than an extended tenure in office. Once his mission is complete, he indicated the possibility of retiring, feeling that achieving these objectives would fulfill his purpose.
