Progress in Senate Collusion Case as Election Commission Advances Investigation

Bangkok: The Election Commission (EC) has announced progress in the “Senate Collusion Case,” adhering to four main working procedures. The case has now reached the 36th Committee, which is currently preparing its opinion file to submit to the EC for a decision. The commission emphasized thoroughness and fairness for all parties, ensuring compliance with the four-step work process.

According to Thai News Agency, the Election Commission Office issued a statement addressing a complaint that the EC and the ECT Secretary-General neglected their duties in probing and investigating complaints about the election of senators. The statement clarified that the ECT, the ECT Secretary-General, and the Office executed their responsibilities in alignment with legal procedures and did not neglect their duties or delay the matter. All cases were considered with transparency, safeguarding rights and ensuring fairness for all parties to build public confidence in an honest, fair, and lawful decision-making process.

The investigation and inquiry files are currently in the third stage. The 36th Subcommittee on Adjudication of Issues or Controversies is in the process of reviewing the files and preparing its opinions to be submitted to the Election Commission meeting for consideration and decision at the next stage.

The Election Commission (EC) reiterates its commitment to following procedures for considering complaints. The first step involves the provincial EC office. Once the investigation and inquiry committee receives the case file, it conducts an investigation or inquiry and prepares its opinion, which is then submitted to the provincial election director for an opinion. Upon completion, the case file is promptly forwarded to the central EC office.
