Public Transport Fares Frozen for Songkran Festival Amid Fuel Delivery Preparations

Bangkok: The Ministry of Transport confirms that public transport fares will be frozen during Songkran. Public transportation systems are ready for Songkran. The government is freezing fares and using GPS tracking for fuel transport vehicles to prevent delays or disruptions in the fuel delivery system.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the government understands the concerns of the public during the Songkran festival, particularly regarding the cost of living, travel by public transportation, and uncertainty about access to fuel at gas stations along various routes. Therefore, the Prime Minister has instructed all relevant agencies to prepare comprehensively, including facilitating travel, ensuring safety, and managing energy resources, so that people can travel back to their hometowns with confidence and without facing the risk of fuel shortages along the way.

Ms. Ratchada stated that the Ministry of Transport has upgraded its measures to support travel by coordinating with PTT Oil and Retail Public Company Limited to fully replenish fuel reserves at bus terminals nationwide operated by the Transport Company Limited (BKS). This is to accommodate both regular and additional buses during periods of high travel demand. She also clearly confirmed that there will be no fare increase during this holiday period, in order to reduce the financial burden on the public.

Meanwhile, the Department of Land Transport (DLT) has coordinated with operators across all sectors to assess fuel demand in advance and plan for sufficient allocation on all routes. They are also closely monitoring fuel transportation by tracking over 5,700 fuel transport trucks equipped with GPS systems in real-time to prevent delays or disruptions to the fuel delivery system.

The Ministry of Transport forecasts that between April 10-19, 2026, the total volume of vehicles entering and leaving Bangkok will exceed 10.65 million, with 15.89 million on expressways. Public transportation is also expected to see over 18.58 million trips, an increase of 10-14 percent compared to normal periods, reflecting the increased traffic density this year.

'The government is not ignoring the public's concerns. We have prepared the entire system to ensure that everyone can travel conveniently, safely, and with sufficient fuel along the route. However, we urge the public to plan their journeys in advance to save time and money, while also increasing safety and peace of mind along the way,' said the Prime Minister's spokesperson.
