Public Transport Ready for Songkran Festival 2025: Surapong Inspects System at Mo Chit

Bangkok: Surapong Piyachote, Deputy Minister of Transport, inspected the readiness of the public transportation system at the BTS Skytrain’s Mo Chit Station to support the travel needs of people and tourists during the Songkran Festival 2025.

According to Thai News Agency, Surapong noted that an estimated 2.52 million passenger-trips are expected during the Songkran Festival 2025, occurring from April 11-17. This includes 993,188 passengers traveling by public transport (BKS), 770,198 by air, and 757,292 by rail and intercity trains. To accommodate this influx, Surapong has mandated the management of all routes and the provision of additional vehicles throughout the day. Compliance with legal standards for buses is also emphasized, with immediate enforcement of regulations.

To enhance service convenience and travel efficiency, the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) has organized a shuttle bus service connecting the Bangkok Bus Terminal (Chatuchak) or Mo Chit 2 with the Krungthep Aphiwat Central Station, BTS Skytrain at Mo Chit Station, and MRT Blue Line at Chatuchak Park Station.

For security during the festival, the BTS Skytrain has implemented stringent measures, including luggage checks and prohibiting dangerous items such as weapons, imitation weapons, sharp objects, balloons, fireworks, BB guns, and flammable objects. Station staff will monitor these measures, aided by police officers and K-9 units, to ensure passenger safety.

Passengers using the BTS Skytrain during the festival are advised to clean their tickets and passes beforehand, as water and powder can affect their functionality. The stations will provide buckets for passengers to dispose of water and powder before entry. The company also requests wet passengers to wait at the Automatic Gate until dry for safe use.

In celebration of Songkran Festival activities from April 13-15, which include Family Day and National Senior Citizens Day, passengers aged 60 and over can travel for free on all BTS Skytrain routes. This offer is available from 06:00 to 24:00 by presenting an ID card at the station’s ticket office. Passengers are encouraged to use Rabbit Cards, Single Journey Cards, or One-Day Pass tickets for seamless travel during the festival.
