Chanthaburi: The Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation has announced an exciting update for nature enthusiasts visiting Khao Sib Ha Chan National Park. The park is now home to the "Mysterious Spider Plant," a rare saprophytic plant that emerges only during the rainy season from May to August.
According to Thai News Agency, this unique plant, also referred to as the "Spiderweb Wonder," lacks chlorophyll and is therefore devoid of the usual green pigmentation found in most plants. Instead of photosynthesis, it derives its nutrients from decomposing plant and animal matter on the forest floor. The plant is typically found hidden amongst the decaying leaves in the rainforest, flourishing at altitudes between 50 to 250 meters above sea level.
Visitors to Khao Sib Ha Chan National Park are encouraged to explore the area near the waterfalls and along nature trails to catch a glimpse of this fascinating plant. The Department of National Parks advises caution, reminding tourists to tread carefully to avoid stepping on the fragile plant, which is only visible during the early to mid-rainy season. This rare sighting offers a unique opportunity for visitors to witness the remarkable adaptability and survival strategies of plant life in the rainforest ecosystem.
