Rayong: Rayong province is moving forward with revitalizing its old town, investing nearly 30 million baht in the construction of a new bridge across the Rayong River. The bridge features a blend of Thai and Chinese designs, aiming to connect the two sides of the river to a cultural street, boost tourism, and generate sustainable economic growth for the community.
According to Thai News Agency, the Governor of Rayong Province presided over the ceremony to hoist the steel bridge beams onto the piers across the Rayong River. This project involves the construction of two bridges across the canal, with a total budget of 28.5 million baht. The design incorporates Thai-Chinese architectural styles to reflect the community's identity and preserve its historical landmarks. The first bridge is located near the Maliwanich Soi pier, and the second near the Tha Pradu pier. The project is expected to be completed on August 14th.
The second bridge will be located next to the Thap Thim Shrine, a sacred site revered by the people of Rayong. This area is also home to the Rayong City Pillar Shrine, another important landmark of the city. The construction of this bridge will greatly improve convenience for tourists. A key objective of this infrastructure upgrade is to connect the lifestyle to Yomchinda Road in Rayong's old town. Over 60 years ago, this area was the most important economic center of Rayong. Today, it remains filled with old buildings and architecture, inviting tourists to experience and explore the past. Besides the charm of the old buildings, there is also the Rayong Old Town Museum, an important learning center showcasing antique artifacts and historical photographs of Rayong. Furthermore, there are many restaurants serving recipes passed down through generations. Rayong Province believes that once both bridges are completed, along with landscape improvements and water quality enhancements, this old town area will become another important tourist landmark in Rayong.
