Lampang: A restaurant owner has surrendered to police after fatally shooting his neighbor at close range with a shotgun, severing his heart, before using a knife to attack the victim's wife and her sister. The incident stemmed from a long-standing feud between the victim and his neighbor over parking issues and other trivial matters, though none had escalated to physical violence. The gunman insists he did not initiate the attack.
According to Thai News Agency, the initial statement from Mr. Anusorn, or Tha, 62, the owner of the pork blood soup shop, given to reporters after being brought to surrender by relatives, stated that he committed the crime out of anger and accumulated problems with the family of the deceased and injured, namely Mr. Chaiwut, 54, Mrs. Panadda, or Bee, 55, Mr. Chaiwut's wife, and Mrs. Praphaporn, or Iff, 48, Mrs. Bee's sister. He further emphasized that on the day of the incident, he was watering plants when the deceased started a fight and attempted to attack him with a knife. He then went to get his gun and shot Mr. Chaiwut dead. Regarding the knife attacks on Mrs. Bee, Mr. Chaiwut's wife, and her sister, he claimed it occurred during a struggle over the knife.
To rewind, the incident occurred around 9:30 PM. Rescue workers and police received a report of three people being shot and stabbed near a restaurant on Phahonyothin Road, within the jurisdiction of Khelang Nakhon Police Station. Upon arrival at the scene, police found Mr. Chaiwut shot at point-blank range with a short-barreled shotgun; the bullet had passed through his body.
The left side of her chest severed her heart's main artery. Ms. Panadda, or Bee, the wife of Mr. Chaiwut, a local news reporter in Lampang, had her right hand slashed, fracturing the bone, and was struck in the neck. Meanwhile, Ms. Praphaporn, or Iff, Bee's sister, was slashed in the head.
Regarding the motive for the crime, the wife of Mr. Anusorn (the perpetrator) stated that her husband and the victim had previously argued about parking in a way that blocked other vehicles. On the evening of the incident, she didn't know what the argument was about; she only saw her husband watering plants when he suddenly shouted, "What did you say to me?" He then went inside, grabbed a gun, and she heard a single gunshot. He then returned and grabbed a knife. When she ran after him, she saw them fighting with knives before he returned, abandoned the gun and knife, and rode away on his motorcycle without taking anything with him. She was unable to contact him. She admitted to being shocked and not knowing what to do, as she never expected something like this to happen.
Iff, the sister of the deceased's wife, recounted that her brother-in-law and sister had only moved into the house on April 6th. They had mentioned that Mr. Anusorn (the perpetrator) often parked his car on the property, and they had asked him to move it to another spot so they could use that area for drinking and socializing with friends. Mr. Anusorn was unhappy about this, leading to an argument. The matter then quieted down until the evening of the incident. Iff, returning from buying food, saw her brother-in-law already in a fight. Her sister tried to stop him from opening the door, but he refused, saying he wanted to go out and ask Mr. Anusorn what the problem was. As soon as he opened the door, he was shot unexpectedly. Afterward, Mr. Anusorn went back to get a knife and attacked her sister, leading to a struggle. Iff tried to help and was also hit by a stray bullet.
