Revealing the history of “Chaikasem Nitisiri”, the new prime minister candidate

Retracing the life path of 'Chaikasem Nitisiri' from Attorney General to Prime Ministerial candidate after news broke that the Pheu Thai Party will submit its name to compete for the new Prime Minister on August 16. Mr. Chaikasem Nitisiri is said to be a trusted legal expert of 'Baan Chan Song La'. He was born on August 26, 1948 and is currently 75 years old. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Law from the Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University, an LLM from Columbia University, USA, and a Thai Bar Association. After graduating, he began his civil service career as an assistant prosecutor of Samut Sakhon Province and was promoted steadily until he became the Attorney General in 2007. He exercised discretion to not prosecute Mr. Phichit Chuenban in the candy bag case. Chaikasem entered politics during the Yingluck Shinawatra government, serving as Justice Minister in 2013 and was one of the ministers who refused to resign at the last minute before the 2014 coup. Mr. Chaikasem has been named as a prime ministerial candidate for the Pheu Thai Party twice, in the 2019 election and most recently in 2023. Despite facing health problems from a blood clot in the brain during the election campaign, he insists that he is 100% recovered. Last October, Mr. Chaikasem resigned from being a party-list MP to become an advisor to Mr. Settha, the prime minister, until Mr. Settha left the prime minister position and there were rumors that Mr. Chaikasem would be chosen to run for the prime minister's seat after Pheu Thai Party leaders and coalition government leaders went to Chan Song La house last night (14 August).
