Sisaket: Rome invades Phu Makhuea, hoping to raise the level of border conflict prevention. He assigned Anutin homework: “The government has full authority and must find proactive measures, not just negotiations.” He also urged the handling of “Ben Smith,” a key figure suspected of involvement in a call center.
According to Thai News Agency, on October 5, 2015, the House of Representatives Committee on State Security, Thai Border Affairs, National Strategy and National Reform, chaired by Mr. Rangsiman Rome, a party-list MP and Deputy Leader of the Prachachon Party, undertook a crucial visit to Phu Makhuea. This strategic location in Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province, serves as a significant Thai-Cambodian point, and the visit aimed to address ongoing security issues.
Mr. Rangsiman emphasized the importance of Phu Makhuea as a strategic site and highlighted the committee’s focus on recent border clashes. The visit aimed to facilitate the resolution of the complex border conflict by supporting security agencies in enhancing defense measures. The integration of technology in developing new strategies is expected to lead to a resolution of the Thai-Cambodian conflict.
The committee has also prioritized the call center issue, acknowledging that negotiations have been largely unsuccessful due to Cambodian authorities’ reliance on revenue from call center operations. This unresolved issue poses a challenge, especially if conflicts arise. The committee aims to utilize gathered information to enhance border security efficiently.
Addressing the government’s role, Mr. Rangsiman urged Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to leverage his experience as Minister of the Interior in resolving these issues. With the government having only four months to act, Mr. Rangsiman emphasized the need for rapid response and preparedness for worst-case scenarios, ensuring swift relief efforts.
During the visit, Mr. Rangsiman noted damages exceeding 18 million baht at a gas station affected by a bombing. After compensation from private companies, approximately 13 million baht remained. He acknowledged public uncertainty about the compensation process and stressed the need for clarity in addressing the call center issue, with key players present on Thai soil.
Mr. Rangsiman mentioned the possible involvement of Ben Smith with a call center gang, citing clear evidence from the latest House committee meeting. He urged Mr. Anutin to initiate an investigation into the financial trail, warning that unidentified sources of money could be deemed illicit and pose a danger.
