Bangkok:Officials from the Royal Household and the Royal Thai Navy are preparing the Royal Barge Suphannahong for the Royal Barge Procession, coinciding with His Majesty the King's Kathina Robe Offering Ceremony on November 6, 2026. The preparations took place at the Thonburi Naval Dockyard in Bangkok Noi District, Bangkok.
According to Thai News Agency, the ceremonial decorations on the barge include two seven-tiered umbrellas positioned at the front and back of the royal throne, alongside five five-tiered umbrellas and three-tailed flags at the stern. Inside the royal throne, curtains have been installed at all four corners, adhering to ancient royal traditions.
Another key feature is the "tassel" at the bow of the barge, designed to resemble a swan's head. Crafted from clean, soft white yak hair, these tassels are intricately arranged and embellished with crystals, producing a sparkling effect that enhances the barge's elegance. The Royal Barge Suphannahong, recognized for its historical and architectural significance, received the Maritime Heritage Award from the World Ship Trust in 1992.
Preparations for the Royal Barge Procession are progressing, with full dress rehearsals set for October 21 and 28, 2026, ahead of the ceremony in November.
