Royal Irrigation Department Intensifies Water Management in Flood-Affected Provinces

Bangkok:The Royal Irrigation Department is actively managing water resources across Chachoengsao, Bangkok, and Samut Prakan, focusing on expediting drainage while minimizing hardship for residents.

According to Thai News Agency, the department is utilizing a network of canals, sluice gates, and pumping stations to distribute water efficiently, ensuring that drainage efforts in one area do not exacerbate flooding in another. They have started monitoring water levels at Khlong Bang Sao Thong in Samut Prakan to enhance floodwater drainage strategies.

Efforts include maximizing the potential of the water system by coordinating drainage in each canal, installing additional water pumps where necessary, and conducting thorough surveys of canals to check for obstructions. This integrated approach aims to alleviate public suffering swiftly by considering both the terrain and the water-carrying capacity of downstream areas.

At the Bang Khanak pumping station, the department emphasizes integrated water management, coordinating with relevant agencies to align drainage plans with the current situation and each canal's capacity. Additional pumps are being considered to enhance drainage efficiency, and water levels are being closely monitored to mitigate the impact on communities both upstream and downstream.

Furthermore, meticulous management of the canal network connected to the Bang Pakong River is underway. The department is adjusting plans to suit water volume and drainage capacity in each affected area, with the goal of minimizing flooding and its impact on residents along the riverbanks.
