Royal Thai Air Force Clarifies Air Operations Against Cambodian Military Targets

Bangkok: The Royal Thai Air Force has provided an explanation regarding its recent air operations that targeted military objectives within Cambodian territory. These operations were executed in compliance with security protocols and international law, with a primary focus on minimizing the impact on civilians uninvolved in the conflict.

According to Thai News Agency, Air Chief Marshal Chakrit Thamwichai, serving as the Royal Thai Air Force spokesman, stated that the operation was conducted in collaboration with the Suranaree Forces. This response was necessitated by Cambodian military actions perceived as direct threats to Thailand’s security, particularly concerning the safety of citizens residing in border regions and personnel active in those areas.

Further tactical inspections identified the movement of heavy military equipment, mobilization of combat forces, and preparations for fire support by Cambodia. These activities were assessed as potential threats to stability in the Thai border areas, prompting the deployment of air power to mitigate and diminish Cambodia’s military capabilities to a level sufficient for ensuring national security and the safety of residents in the vicinity.

The Air Force emphasized that its mission was carried out with caution, focusing solely on military infrastructure, weapons storage facilities, command centers, and combat support routes linked to activities deemed a threat to national security. Additionally, the results of the strikes were reviewed to ensure compliance with the universal principle of self-defense as outlined by the United Nations Charter, adhering strictly to the principles of necessity and proportionality.

The Royal Thai Air Force reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of citizens in the affected areas. It intends to implement all necessary precautions to ensure that mission operations are conducted securely and with minimized risks.

The Air Force assured that its air operations would be executed responsibly, responding appropriately to threats impacting sovereignty, independence, and the safety of the populace. The overarching aim remains to maintain regional stability and prevent any further escalation of tensions.
