Bangkok: Mrs. Manoporn Charoensri, Deputy Minister of Transport, has directed the Royal Thai Air Force to meticulously prepare for the influx of passengers during the Songkran Festival 2025. The directive emphasizes stringent enforcement of security measures at every airport, ensuring they meet established standards. The order underscores the importance of sufficient public transportation connections, stressing that passengers should not be exploited.
According to Thai News Agency, the Deputy Minister has instructed the Department of Airports (DoA) to enhance their readiness for the festival period. This includes strict adherence to safety and security inspection procedures and ensuring that all safety and security equipment is fully operational and adequate. Coordination with agencies such as the Tourist Police and Tourist Assistance Center is also mandated to provide comprehensive care and facilitation for passengers.
Furthermore, the Airports of Thailand (AOT) is tasked with ensuring that staff are available to assist passengers on every flight, with a commitment to not leaving any passengers behind. Public vehicle rental operators must also ensure their vehicles and drivers are prepared to provide safe and cost-effective transport from the airport, with travel information made accessible and clear to all passengers.
Mr. Danai Ruangson, Director-General of the Department of Airports, reported that the AOT is thoroughly prepared to accommodate the expected increase in passenger traffic during the Songkran Festival. From April 11-18, 2025, there will be 2,032 domestic flights, marking a 13.9% increase from the previous year, with more than 327,000 domestic passengers anticipated-a 26.42% increase. International flights are projected to see a significant rise, with 108 flights scheduled, reflecting an 80% increase, and an estimated 18,000 international passengers, up by 60.69%. Overall, the AOT has increased flights by 16.05% from last year, with an expected 28.69% rise in total passenger numbers.
The AOT has been instructed to maintain strict operational standards at all airports, ensuring safety and security, and preparing for potential emergencies in collaboration with local agencies. Sufficient staff and facilities must be provided to facilitate passenger movement, and clear information dissemination within airports is emphasized. In cases of flight delays or cancellations, passengers must be promptly informed of any benefits due to them. Additionally, operators of consumer goods stores within airports must ensure their products are of good quality and fairly priced. All airports under the Department of Airports are set to ensure a smooth and safe travel experience for all passengers during Songkran Festival 2025.
