Royal Thai Army Deploys 4,000 Troops for Flood Relief in Central Thailand

Bangkok:The Royal Thai Army is deploying over 4,000 personnel to assist with flood relief efforts in central Thailand, focusing on districts such as Bang Kapi and Lat Krabang. A forward operations center has been set up to expedite aid operations.

According to Thai News Agency, Major General Winthai Suwari, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Army, stated that flooding continues to affect homes, transportation, and daily life, particularly in Bangkok and its surrounding areas. Although water levels have begun to recede on major roads, certain areas still face significant flooding, particularly in eastern Bangkok. The central and eastern regions are also experiencing rising water levels.

The Army Disaster Relief Center (ADRC) is coordinating efforts with military units, the 1st Army Area Disaster Relief Center, and the Royal Command Center for Disaster Relief, Region 1. The mobilization involves 288 vehicles, 20 boats, 9 mobile kitchens, and 2 drone systems to assist affected communities.

In Bangkok, the Army has increased support and established Forward Operations Centers to work with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and other agencies. The 1st Infantry Division, Royal Guard, is managing efforts in Bang Kapi, while the 2nd Cavalry Division, Royal Guard, is responsible for Lat Krabang. They are providing transport and essential supplies to residents.

In the Bang Kapi district, the Army is assisting residents of Khlong Chan housing estate with transport and supplies. Similarly, in Lat Krabang, the Army is using boats and trucks to help evacuate and support residents in the Rom Klao community.

Surrounding areas, like Pathum Thani province, are being monitored, and military units are reinforcing sandbag barriers in Sam Khok district. In Prachinburi, personnel and medical teams are aiding transportation and evacuation efforts.

The Army is also monitoring other vulnerable areas in central and eastern Thailand, including Ayutthaya and Chonburi provinces, and along the Chao Phraya River. They are prepared to provide immediate assistance as needed.

The Army Commander has instructed all units to ensure the safety of the public and military personnel, highlighting the importance of equipment readiness and awareness of potential hazards in flooded areas.
