Bangkok: The Royal Thai Army has announced an ongoing investigation into a case involving a discrepancy in fuel oil records, following evidence of potential wrongdoing. The Army is currently examining the situation further to determine the extent of the issue and is prepared to take necessary legal and disciplinary actions if any misconduct is confirmed.
According to Thai News Agency, the Royal Thai Army discovered discrepancies between the actual fuel inventory in a warehouse and the recorded amounts in military accounts during 2023. This prompted an internal review and the formation of an inspection committee in May 2025, spearheaded by the Inspector General of the Royal Thai Army. The committee’s mandate is to assess and scrutinize the records of units within the Department of Army Quartermaster.
Initial findings revealed that at various points in 2023, the fuel quantities did not align with government accounting records. In response, responsible personnel attempted to rectify the issue by purchasing additional fuel to bridge the gap and match the recorded figures. The audit committee highlighted that while this action demonstrated personal accountability, the procurement process was documented as if it were an official government purchase.
The investigation remains incomplete, with several aspects still under review. The Royal Thai Army is committed to delving deeper into the evidence to uncover the facts surrounding the case. Transparency and accountability are emphasized as core values in the Army’s administrative practices, particularly in the management of critical resources like fuel and ammunition. The Commander-in-Chief has instructed relevant units to conduct regular inspections of military divisions to uphold these standards.
Should the investigation confirm any improper actions or breaches of government regulations, the Royal Thai Army has assured that stringent legal and disciplinary measures will be enforced to address the misconduct.
