Bangkok: The Royal Thai Army has announced the successful capture of Hill 350 and the solemn return of the bodies of two fallen soldiers to their grieving families. The families are currently awaiting the bodies for funeral rites, marking a poignant moment in the aftermath of the military operation.
According to Thai News Agency, the operation to control the area around Hill 350 stemmed from the initial seizure of Ta Kwai Temple on December 15th, which was crucial for establishing security at Hill 350. The Cambodian forces attempted to retake the Ta Kwai Temple area, using Hill 350 as a strategic base, which led to intense resistance during the Thai army’s efforts to secure the region. Tragically, this resulted in the deaths of Sergeant Major Samroeng Klangprakon and Private Phanupat Sausa from the 3rd Infantry Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment.
The Thai military finally gained control of Hill 350 on December 20, 2025, after five days of sustained efforts. The area around Ta Kwai Temple and Hill 350 was identified as a particularly intense battleground in Surin Province, with challenging geographical features. Despite these challenges, the capabilities of the Thai soldiers enabled them to successfully secure the area.
The 2nd Army Area Facebook page detailed the mission, led by Lieutenant General Veerayuth Rakasilp and Major General Sompop Pharawech, highlighting the meticulous and cautious approach taken during the operation. The military employed a multi-dimensional warfare strategy, which included aerial attacks, disruption of supply lines, and precise ground assaults.
Hill 350 is a strategic vantage point, functioning as a natural watchtower and offering significant advantages in observation and defense. Its capture was crucial for controlling the surrounding area. Local residents near Prasat Ta Kwai and Hill 350, who had observed the area since 2004, acknowledged the challenges posed by the terrain and the longstanding Cambodian presence in the region. They expressed gratitude to the Thai soldiers for their sacrifice and hoped for a swift resolution to the conflict.
The family of Sergeant Major Samroeng Klangprakon traveled from Buriram province upon learning of his return. Overcome with grief, his mother and wife arrived at the hospital to await the autopsy and subsequent return of his body for funeral rites.
