Bangkok: Preparations are underway for the royal barge procession in 2026 for the Kathina robe presentation ceremony. Admiral Pairoj Fuengchan, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy, presided over the opening ceremony of the royal barge procession rehearsal in preparation for the royal barges for the Kathina robe presentation ceremony in 2026, on the occasion of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit's 4th cycle birthday anniversary on June 3, 2026. The ceremony took place at the Monument of His Majesty King Ananda Mahidol, Rama VIII Bridge, Bang Phlat District.
According to Thai News Agency, approximately 2,200 personnel, including high-ranking officers of the Royal Thai Navy, members of the royal barge procession, and oarsmen, participated in the event. Admiral Fuengchan addressed the personnel, underscoring their role as crucial contributors to the conduct of the royal barge procession. He emphasized the need for all personnel to be prepared physically and mentally, dedicating their energy and perseverance throughout the rehearsals to ensure the procession would impress both Thai and foreign citizens and create another historic moment for the Royal Thai Navy.
The rehearsal is structured into smaller and larger sets of drills leading up to the actual ceremony on November 6, 2026. The smaller rehearsals are scheduled for August-October, totaling 12 sessions: August 17, 20, and 27; September 3, 8, 17, and 23; and October 2, 8, 15, 21, and 28, 2026. The public is invited to watch the rehearsal along the entire route the royal barge procession passes.
Viewing points include, on the Thonburi side, under the Rama VIII Bridge near the King Rama VIII Monument, the 72nd Birthday Anniversary Park next to Siriraj Hospital, Wat Rakhang Khositariam pier, and Wat Arun Ratchawararam; and on the Phra Nakhon side, Santi Chai Prakan Park next to Phra Sumen Fort, Tha Maharaj, and Tha Chang. The royal barge procession will begin at the Rama VIII Bridge and conclude at Wat Arun Ratchawararam.
