Bangkok: The Royal Thai Police Traffic Division has extended its gratitude to traffic police nationwide for their hard work in ensuring public safety during the Songkran festival. The division emphasized the importance of upgraded measures to accommodate the return journey of travelers, instructing officers to open special lanes if congestion occurs.
According to Thai News Agency, the Traffic Management Center of the Royal Thai Police (TMC-RTP), under the supervision of Pol. Gen. Samran Nualma, Deputy Commissioner General of the Royal Thai Police and Director of the TMC-RTP, highlighted the dedication of traffic police officers and volunteers who worked tirelessly between April 12-14, 2026. Their efforts in the hot weather facilitated smooth traffic flow at event areas and key intersections across the country.
Positive interactions between police officers and the public were noted, with officers participating in Songkran festivities, fostering a friendly atmosphere, and ensuring safety. This initiative showcased the "traffic police close to the people" image during the festival.
As the public begins to return to Bangkok and other provinces, the Traffic Police Division has directed officers to enhance operations on major routes. Speeding, drunk driving, and neglecting safety measures remain leading causes of accidents. Officers are strategically deployed along return routes to enforce laws and manage traffic, preventing congestion at critical points.
Additional support is provided for travelers facing vehicle breakdowns or emergencies, with officials ready to assist to ensure safe journeys. Reversible lanes will be opened if congestion is detected, and the public is encouraged to check real-time traffic conditions via the "Traffic News" application to plan their travels efficiently.
The "Tang Rat" application is available for download on iOS and Android, aiding in traffic monitoring. The Royal Thai Police assures continuous monitoring of return routes, aiming for a safe and pleasant travel experience during Songkran.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Nithithorn Chintakanon, Commander of the Education Division, reiterated the commitment of traffic police and volunteers to assist the public in returning safely to their destinations, even as the festival concludes.
For accident reports or route information, the traffic hotline 1197 and highway police hotline 1193 are available 24/7.
