Bangkok: The Royal Thai Police are ready to ensure the safety of citizens during Songkran, offering a "House Watching with Police" service.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwphan, Deputy Inspector General of the Royal Thai Police and spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police, revealed that Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet, Commissioner General of the Royal Thai Police, has instructed all subordinate units to oversee crime prevention and suppression, maintain peace and order, facilitate traffic, and prevent and reduce road accidents during the long Songkran holiday period in 2026.
The Commissioner General has directed all relevant units to implement crime prevention and suppression measures in areas hosting Songkran festival activities. These measures are designed to ensure that the timing of these activities varies across different areas and that the events are appropriately coordinated with the local context. All units nationwide are to conduct a comprehensive crime crackdown prior to the holiday weekend from April 3rd to 9th, 2026. They are also tasked with preparing for the prevention of property crimes, particularly around transportation hubs, major tourist attractions, and hotels.
Furthermore, the Commissioner General of Police emphasized the importance of law enforcement and traffic management, especially during the intensive 7-day period from April 10-16, 2026. The goal is to reduce accidents, fatalities, and injuries by at least 5% compared to the average of the past three years. This will be implemented according to the 2026 Songkran Festival Road Accident Prevention and Reduction Plan, including setting up alcohol checkpoints and traffic enforcement checkpoints in accident-prone areas.
The Royal Thai Police launched the "Leave Your Home with the Police" project from April 10-20, 2026, to enhance crime prevention efforts. This service is available for citizens who need to travel and have no one at home. They can register for the project via the "Police Care" application or by submitting a registration form at their nearest police station.
The Royal Thai Police are issuing a public warning during the Songkran festival regarding the dangers of leaving children or the elderly alone at home. They advise caution due to the presence of criminals who use various deceptive tactics. Travelers should avoid wearing jewelry or valuables and should not leave valuables in their vehicles. Furthermore, be wary of being drugged for robbery, the use of counterfeit banknotes for purchases, and online scams.
If members of the public find any information about criminal activity or need assistance, they can contact the 191 hotline or the Royal Thai Police Operations Center hotline at 1599. For traffic information, the Highway Police hotline at 1193 or the Traffic Police Division hotline in Bangkok at 1197 is available 24 hours a day.
During this Songkran festival, the Royal Thai Police has compiled various police services for the public through the "Police Care" application. Users can check traffic routes, register for the "Leave Your Home with the Police" program, and find nearby vehicle inspection stations for pre-trip checks. The application is available for both iOS and Android systems via the App Store and Google Play.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong emphasized that this Songkran, the Royal Thai Police pledges to fully ensure the safety of the public, both through law enforcement and by facilitating travel, so that everyone can return home safely.
