Bangkok: The Royal Thai Police have issued a stern warning against the misuse of Songkran powder following reports of influencers creating potentially harmful content. Despite the concerns, no victims have yet filed a police report regarding being hit in the face with the powder during the festival.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Maj. Gen. Siriwat Deepo, Deputy Spokesperson of the Royal Thai Police, addressed the issue at a press conference on April 27, 2026. He highlighted the case where influencers were reportedly mixing a sealant-like powder with water and applying it to people's faces during Songkran. This behavior, if confirmed, could pose a public nuisance and potential danger. The police warned YouTubers, influencers, and online content creators against engaging in or promoting such actions to prevent copycat incidents and potential harm.
The deputy spokesperson outlined several key points to prevent misuse of social media content: avoiding content that bullies or causes distress, refraining from spreading false information, and not supporting channels producing "junk content." These actions could lead to legal repercussions under various sections of the Criminal Code and the Computer Crime Act.
Investigations at Phra Pradaeng Police Station in Samut Prakan Province revealed no formal complaints regarding harm from powder misuse. However, the Royal Thai Police emphasized that individuals affected by such actions have the right to pursue legal action. The public is encouraged to report any incidents of public nuisance or harassment to the 191 or 1599 hotlines, available around the clock.
