Ruttaphol Denies Political Persecution as DSI Opposes Bail for Chonnapat

Bangkok: "Ruttaphol" revealed that the DSI opposes bail for "Chonnapat" because there is multiple pieces of evidence, denying any political persecution. They are preparing to expand the investigation and are hoping that if the court denies bail, he will immediately lose his MP status.

According to Thai News Agency, Police Lieutenant General Rudupol Nawarat, Minister of Justice, gave an interview regarding the case of Mr. Chanonphat Naksua, a Member of Parliament from Songkhla Province representing the Kla Tham Party and a suspect in an online gambling and money laundering case, being brought before the Criminal Court for detention. He acknowledged that the officers had brought him for detention and that the case is currently awaiting the court's decision.

Regarding the reason why the investigating officers objected to bail at the investigative stage, Police Lieutenant General Ruttapol stated that it was due to several pieces of evidence that had emerged.

When asked by reporters whether this would be seen as political persecution, Pol. Lt. Gen. Ruttapol said it probably wouldn't, because the evidence was gathered during the search of the residence, and that investigators would definitely gather more evidence and expand the investigation further.

If the Criminal Court denies bail, Mr. Chonnapat will be detained in prison, which will immediately result in him losing his position as a Member of Parliament.
