S. Korea holds meeting with next UNSC non-permanent members over N. Korea

Lee Kyung-chul, South Korea's high representative for the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), has discussed North Korea and other pending issues with the top envoys to Seoul from the next non-permanent members of the council, the foreign ministry said Wednesday. The meeting, held on Tuesday, was attended by Pakistani Ambassador Nabeel Munir, Ekaterini Loupas of Greece and Svend Olling of Denmark, the ministry said. The three countries were elected as non-permanent members of the UNSC for the next term. The UNSC consists of five permanent members and ten non-permanent members with a two-year term. South Korea is currently serving from 2024 to 2025, while Pakistan's term will be from 2025 to 2026. During the consultation, the Seoul government shared its experience in UNSC activities and expressed hope for cooperation in discussions and responses within the UNSC on issues such as North Korea and the Korean Peninsula. Additionally, the participants agreed on enhancing the responsibility and transparency of UNSC operations and faithfully fulfilling the obligations, the ministry said. Source: Yonhap News Agency
