Bangkok: Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital opened its doors to senior citizens for the Age Friendly Run 2026: Running for Youth, marking the third edition of the event. The hospital transformed into a running venue, inviting those aged 50 and above to participate in a safe, supportive environment, with the presence of doctor and nurse runners ensuring everyone's well-being.
According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Adinan Kittirattanapaiboon, Director of Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital and Samitivej International Children's Hospital, emphasized the hospital's commitment to elderly care under the Age-Friendly Hospital concept. The hospital has achieved two international standards from the United States: Emergency Geriatric Care and the highest level of Age-Friendly Health Systems. Dr. Kittirattanapaiboon noted that elderly care extends beyond treatment to encompass physical and mental well-being, and the event aimed to foster exercise and family involvement under the 4Ms Framework. Over 100 medical professionals participated as runners to ensure safety throughout the route.
The event's activities were organized into four phases. The first was a 1-kilometer walk/run within the hospital grounds, featuring engaging health-related activities for all ages, including seniors and wheelchair users, with no competitive element. The second phase was a 3-kilometer walk/jog starting from the hospital on Rama 9 Road, providing a light exercise option without competition. The third phase was a 5-kilometer race designed to test cardiovascular fitness and runner maturity, starting from the hospital and traversing various local roads. The final phase was a 10-kilometer race that challenged participants' endurance, looping around the Rajamangala National Stadium and returning to the hospital.
This year's event offered 60 prizes across the 5 and 10 kilometer distances, including overall and age group competitions. Awards were given to the top five male and female finishers, with specific age group awards for those aged 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and older. Special recognition was also given to the oldest male and female participants, as well as team or club awards based on the number of applicants and combined age.
