Samut Songkhram:Residents of Samut Songkhram province have banded together to use their boats to manage floodwaters by pushing water from local canals into the Mae Klong River and eventually out to sea. This collective effort, praised by the Governor of Samut Songkhram, involves residents utilizing their personal boats to assist the community in addressing the flooding issue.
According to Thai News Agency, Governor Chayachai Saeng-in visited the flood-stricken areas to assess the situation and express his appreciation to the residents living along the canals. These residents employed a community-driven strategy, using their boats to propel water during low tide from orchards and smaller canals to larger ones, facilitating its movement toward the sea.
The governor highlighted that many orchards were initially inundated due to the water levels in the canals matching those in the orchards, hindering proper drainage. To combat this, he ordered the opening of waterways and increased pumping efforts in branch canals to expedite the water removal from inner areas. This measure is expected to allow the water levels in the canals to drop, enabling better drainage from the orchards.
Meanwhile, in Ayutthaya, the Darussunnah Mosque faced severe flooding, with water levels nearly reaching two meters, complicating burial procedures at the mosque's cemetery. Assistance was requested from local MP "Beer" and "Chach Taladthai" to relocate a body to a drier location for the burial ceremony. The challenging task involved navigating through the flooded surroundings, eventually leading the body to Bunurul Yamal Islamic School for a successful ceremony.
