Scattered Thunderstorms and Hot Weather Forecasted for Upper Thailand

Bangkok: The Meteorological Department reports that upper Thailand will experience hot weather during the day, accompanied by scattered thunderstorms. These weather patterns are expected to occur mostly in the lower northern, lower northeastern, central, and eastern regions.

According to Thai News Agency, the forecast for the next 24 hours indicates that a low-pressure system caused by heat is affecting upper Thailand. Southerly and southeasterly winds are bringing moisture from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, contributing to the scattered thunderstorms. Residents in upper Thailand are advised to take precautions for their health due to the hot weather and to remain vigilant regarding potential thunderstorms.

In the southern region, southeasterly winds over the Gulf of Thailand, the southern region, and the Andaman Sea are expected to bring scattered thunderstorms. Mariners in these areas are cautioned against sailing in regions experiencing thunderstorms due to wave conditions, which are expected to exceed 2 meters during such events.

The accumulation of particulate matter or haze remains at a moderate level in upper Thailand, attributed to moderate ventilation conditions.

The regional weather forecast for March 20, 2026, indicates varying chances of thunderstorms across different areas. In Bangkok and its surroundings, hot weather with a 10% chance of thunderstorms is expected. Northeastern provinces like Chaiyaphum and Khon Kaen may see a 20% chance of thunderstorms, coupled with high temperatures. Similarly, central and eastern regions will experience hot weather with minor chances of thunderstorms. On the southern coasts, both east and west, thunderstorms are anticipated in 10% of the area, impacting provinces such as Phetchaburi and Phuket. Mariners are advised to exercise caution due to wave conditions that may exceed 1 meter in general and reach higher levels during thunderstorms.
