Bangkok: One of the two SCG ships that safely exited the Strait of Hormuz is expected to arrive in Thailand within two weeks.
According to Thai News Agency, the ship belongs to Siam Cement Public Company Limited (SCG) and exited the Strait of Hormuz following a request for cooperation from the Iranian side by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The vessel is carrying 55,000 tons of naphtha, which will be used to produce basic raw materials such as ethylene and propylene at the Map Ta Phut Olefins Co., Ltd. (MOC), a major upstream olefin producer, before being supplied to plastic pellet (polyethylene, polypropylene) manufacturing plants.
The Rayong Olefins (ROC) plant, which was previously announced to be temporarily closed due to a shortage of raw materials stemming from the tense situation in the Middle East, will not resume operations at this time. Resuming operations requires a continuous supply of raw materials, and currently, only one of the company's vessels has been able to leave the Strait of Hormuz, leaving another stranded. The situation there is being closely monitored.
