Tacloban: A school shooting in the Philippines has left 3 dead and 7 injured. A shooting at a high school in Tacloban, central Philippines, today has left three people dead and seven injured before two suspected gunmen were apprehended.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred inside San Jose National High School in Tacloban, Leyte Province, at approximately 9:00 a.m. local time. More than 1,500 students were attending classes as usual when two teenage boys, armed with firearms, entered a classroom and began firing indiscriminately. Videos circulating on social media show teachers and students crouching under desks in panic amidst more than ten gunshots.

Local police confirmed that at least three people were killed-two women and one man-and seven others were injured. All injured individuals have been transported to the hospital for treatment. Both gunmen, who are juveniles, have been apprehended. The first, a 15-year-old ninth-grade student, was arrested at the school immediately after the incident. The second gunman, a 14-year-old ninth-grade student, attempted to flee but was later apprehended by police. Authorities have seized two firearms used in the shooting: a Glock pistol and a .38 caliber handgun.

The Philippine National Police have deployed forces to secure areas around schools and communities for maximum security. A presidential spokesperson confirmed the arrest of the suspect, condemned the violence, and dispatched medical and psychological teams to provide support to students and staff affected by the incident. Police in Tacloban City are currently investigating the cause and motive behind the shooting and are requesting public cooperation in refraining from sharing unverified videos or information to prevent panic.

School shootings like this are relatively rare in the Philippines, although illegal gun crime and local political violence are more common in some provinces.
