SEA Games Torch Relay Kicks Off Across Host Provinces

Bangkok: The SEA Games torch relay event commenced today, marking the start of the relay activities across the three host provinces for the SEA Games and one host province for the ASEAN Para Games.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Atthakorn Sirilathayakorn, the Minister of Tourism and Sports, led the ceremony that initiated the sacred flame’s journey. The event, held in front of the Indoor Stadium Huamark, was graced by diplomats from ASEAN member countries, Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, and several Thai national athletes.

During his opening speech, Mr. Atthakorn expressed gratitude to His Majesty the King for bestowing the “Royal Flame” on November 6th. He highlighted the flame’s symbolic significance, representing purity and His Majesty’s commitment to promoting national sports.

The Royal Flame Torch Run took place simultaneously in four host provinces, starting with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration lighting the first torch. Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt initiated the run from the Huamark Indoor Stadium, passing the torch through Bangkok to 73 torchbearers and athletes, including notable figures such as Balang Taptimdaeng and Sombat “Buakaw” Banchamek. The relay concluded at 8:00 PM at the Huamark Indoor Stadium, showcasing the country’s readiness for the upcoming regional sporting event.

The 33rd SEA Games are scheduled from December 9-20, 2025, across Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla, with the official opening ceremony on December 9 at Rajamangala National Stadium. The 13th ASEAN Para Games will follow, from January 20-26, 2026, in Nakhon Ratchasima Province.
