Bangkok: Seaplane flights between Krabi and Phuket are expected to begin operation later this year. The government is accelerating efforts to upgrade Thailand's airspace to become a global aviation hub, introducing new technologies for air traffic management, and pushing for seaplane flights between Krabi and Phuket by the end of 2026.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ploytalay Laksmisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, is continuously developing transportation and aviation infrastructure to enhance the country's competitiveness and support the growth of tourism, trade, investment, and the future economy. The goal is to propel Thailand towards becoming a "World-class Aviation Hub" in the region, accelerating the adoption of modern technologies and air traffic management systems to improve airspace management efficiency, raise safety standards, and accommodate the projected increase in flight volume in the future.
Ms. Ploytalee stated that concrete progress is being made in preparing for seaplane services, with the goal of launching the inaugural flight on the Krabi International Airport - Phuket Deep Sea Port route by the end of 2026. This will be a significant step in developing a new air transportation system that seamlessly connects land, air, and sea travel, providing more travel options, enhancing the tourist experience, and creating added economic value for the southern region.
The government aims to upgrade the country's transportation system in all dimensions, especially developing the aviation industry to keep pace with global technology. The introduction of modern airspace management systems and the development of seaplanes will enhance tourism potential, investment, and national travel connectivity, creating new economic opportunities and strengthening Thailand's position as a sustainable global aviation hub, Ms. Ploytalee said.
