Bangkok: The Secretary-General of the National Security Council has revealed ongoing efforts to persuade groups with differing opinions to engage in dialogue and negotiations. These efforts come in the context of frequent incidents that officials are actively managing.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chatchai Bangchawad, the Secretary-General, commented on the peace talks in the southern border provinces, suggesting that details should be further discussed with Mr. Thanat Suwannanon, the Director of the National Intelligence Agency and head of the peace talks delegation. Mr. Chatchai noted that some progress has been made, and despite recent incidents, the commitment to peace talks remains a priority.
Mr. Chatchai mentioned that whether recent incidents will affect the negotiations depends on the consideration of the proposals put forth by dissenting groups. He highlighted the importance of persuading both those inclined to dialogue and those resorting to violence to enter the negotiation process. While law enforcement continues, the National Security Council is actively working towards peace, with plans for a meeting of the government's special representatives to assess the situation before a full meeting.
Mr. Chatchai expressed confidence in the ability of military, police, and administrative authorities to manage the ongoing violence, affirming the continued efforts of the NSC in addressing security challenges in the region.
