Kalasin: A six-wheeled vehicle parked on Kalasin Road to mark traffic lines was hit by a sedan, causing chaos as it reversed and spun around the median for over 10 minutes. The sedan driver sustained injuries in the incident.
According to Thai News Agency, the driverless six-wheeled vehicle reversed and climbed over the median strip before eventually stopping on its own. Eyewitnesses were shocked, with some capturing the event on their phones and live-streaming it on social media. The vehicle carried multiple gas tanks, heightening concerns during the chaotic scene, but fortunately, the tanks remained secure and the vehicle did not overturn.
CCTV footage revealed that the incident occurred when a sedan crashed forcefully into the rear of the parked six-wheeled vehicle at approximately 7 pm on the Kalasin-Kamalasai road in Ban Tao Hai, Mueang Kalasin District, near the Tao Hai traffic light intersection. The collision set off a sequence where the parked vehicle, which had been in reverse gear, began moving erratically.
Pol. Col. Wira Hangnak, Superintendent of Kalasin City Police Station, stated that an initial investigation indicated the six-wheeled truck belonged to a road construction contractor from the Kalasin Highways Department. It had stopped with its lights flashing to allow workers to mark road lines when the sedan collided with it. A worker confirmed that the vehicle was left in reverse gear, which likely triggered the erratic movement after the impact.
Police plan to question the sedan driver, currently hospitalized, along with the construction supervisor, workers, and other witnesses to determine the accident’s cause. If the investigation reveals that the contractor failed to display necessary signs or warning lights, legal action will follow.
Mr. Ong-art, Head of Kalasin Highways Division, explained that the road is part of a project to restore the asphalt surface for public use. The project is nearing completion with traffic sign marking underway. Following the incident, Kalasin Highways Division and District officers cleared the area, allowing normal traffic flow to resume.
