Senate President and Committee Visit Injured Soldiers Following Mine Incident

Bangkok: Senate President leads Senators to visit 3 soldiers who stepped on a landmine, giving them money as a gift and encouragement. Senator Sawat revealed that he is waiting to see if it is new or old, indicating that he must be more careful, preparing to discuss with the Deputy Minister of Defense on 24 July.

According to Thai News Agency, General Sawat Tasana, a senator and chairman of the Senate Committee on Military Affairs and State Security, spoke about the incident in which Thai soldiers stepped on a landmine at the Thai-Cambodian border. He said that on July 19, Mr. Mongkol Surassajja, the president of the Senate, along with the Senate committee, visited the three injured soldiers. All three soldiers were in good spirits, and the Senate gave them money as gifts and encouragement.

As for the border area, we have been informed about the placement of mines which are currently being investigated to see if they are old or new. After considering them, they do not appear to be old mines that were laid 10 or 20 years ago. However, we must wait for the results of the investigation. As for the current situation, no matter how severe it is, we must be more careful and continue to monitor the situation.

General Sawat also said that on July 24, the Deputy Minister of Defense will be invited to provide clarification at the committee level. It is expected that questions will be asked about this issue as well.
