Senate Whip Committee Mandates Self-Funded Meals for Senators

Bangkok: The Senate whip has resolved that senators will pay for their own meals at a cost of 10,000 baht each. The decision was made during a meeting of the Senate's Ad Hoc Committee on Senate Affairs, chaired by Mr. Mongkol Surasajja, President of the Senate. The Secretariat will provide meals on meeting days, but the cost will be borne by each senator individually.

According to Thai News Agency, the meeting addressed several significant issues, including the Senate meeting agenda for April 7, 2026, and preparations for the joint parliamentary session to hear the Cabinet's policy statement to Parliament under Article 162 of the Constitution on April 9-10, 2026. Additionally, discussions were held regarding the establishment of a standing committee to examine the background, conduct, and ethical behavior of the nine nominees for the position of Supreme Administrative Court judge.

The committee also agreed to revise Senate regulations concerning the criteria and methods for senators to request consultations before addressing items on the Senate agenda. This revision aims to ensure that procedures are appropriate and consistent with the current situation while providing senators with equal and comprehensive opportunities for consultation. For Senate committee reports, the meeting concluded that it would be at each committee's discretion to include additional observations or suggestions before submitting reports to the Cabinet or other relevant agencies.

Furthermore, the meeting outlined guidelines for providing lunch to Senators during session days. The resolution specifies that the Senate Secretariat will handle lunch arrangements for the first ordinary session of 2026, with each Senator paying 10,000 baht for their meal.
