Bangkok: Senator Kob offered a moral proverb for members of parliament, emphasizing that the constitution is not the problem; the problem is the people. Senator Kob shared a proverb to remind members of parliament to recognize their own mistakes before criticizing others. He concluded with the thought, “People who succeed quietly” are not those who are obsessed with knowledge that never produces benefits.
According to Thai News Agency, reporters stated that during the consideration of three draft constitutional amendments proposed by the Prachachon Party, the Bhumjaithai Party, and the Pheu Thai Party, aimed at amending Section 156 and adding Chapter 15/1, the drafting of a new constitution, chaired by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Mongkol Surasajja. Senator Pol. Col. Kob Atchanakitti, who discussed the three draft constitutions, offered his observations. He stated that he was surprised that today’s meeting was to consider the draft constitution or a no-confidence motion against the Senate. He questioned why they were so immature and still didn’t understand anything. Why were they criticizing each other? Why did they not understand adults or children? A proverb says, “If you’re not good at dancing, blame the drums and flutes.”
Pol. Col. Kob stated that the 2017 Constitution was already good. If anyone wanted to amend it, they should review the Constitutional Court’s ruling. Don’t deviate and accuse the Court. Some people say that independent organizations cannot be removed. They are mistaken. They don’t understand the law and don’t understand the law. The National Anti-Corruption Commission is responsible for investigating the likes and dislikes of political office holders. When people say that others are good, they should stop this habit so the country can progress. It’s absolutely inappropriate to bring personal matters into parliament. Get to the point. They set a morning meeting, but they arrive late and end at midnight. What benefit does that bring? It’s undermining the health of the elderly.
Pol. Col. Kob continued, stating that he would like to make a few observations regarding the three draft constitutions. First, you said that the 2017 constitution contained provisions that contradicted principles, violated democratic legitimacy, and were approved by an unfree and fair referendum. How could you say that? You entered this rule because the 2017 constitution provided everything for you. How could it not be free? The referendum was held according to due process. You are the one who does not respect the law, which states Article 3, which states that sovereign power belongs to the Thai people. Why didn’t you read paragraph 2, which states that the parliament, the cabinet, independent organizations, and government agencies must act in accordance with the constitution and the law, in accordance with the rule of law? You didn’t read it, and then you went and taught others. I don’t want to say that we are where we are today because we blame others, and the constitution.
“I insist that the constitution is not the problem. The problem is the people, especially the corrupt. I insist that independent organizations courageously abide by the constitution. Independent organizations have never abused their power and have always acted in accordance with the constitution. The one who said they were using excessive power was not you. It was you who were using excessive power. The executive branch attempted to interfere with and intrude on independent organizations. When they couldn’t control them, and the Constitutional Court told them to step back, stop doing this, and stop performing their duties, they became angry and ranted, ranting because the balloon had slipped out of their hands. How could they do this? A Thai proverb says, “Blaming others is like sesame seeds. Criticizing and gossiping is lenient. Your own fault is like a heavy mountain. You must conceal your own evil and hide it,” said Pol. Col. Kob.
Pol. Col. Kob stated that the current problem stems from the public’s inability to scrutinize. A group of citizens investigated the administration of punishment and then returned to enforce the law. This is the Constitution. He didn’t want to evoke negative feelings towards the legislature, so he offered some advice to members of parliament. In a world full of talkers, few actually take action. Words may create a temporary image, but actions build lasting credibility. Competence isn’t measured by words, but by the ability to put things into practice. Truly skilled individuals don’t need to appear out of place, as their work speaks loudest. Don’t be swept up in knowledge that never yields benefit, or take pride in unsuccessful efforts. In real life, the winners are those who succeed quietly. Those who know more may lose to those who are skilled, and those who do more may lose to those who succeed.
