Senator Wanchai Criticizes Systemic Issues in Rama II Road Construction

Bangkok: Senator Wanchai Ekprapornphich has expressed concern over the recurring problems associated with the Rama 2 Road construction, highlighting systemic inefficiencies within state construction projects. During a Senate meeting, the senator emphasized that the issues stem from a lack of adherence to standards and ineffective enforcement of government regulations, necessitating urgent intervention.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Gen. Wanchai raised the specific case of the Rama 2 elevated road collapse, which has reportedly resulted in seven accidents between 2020 and 2025, causing ten fatalities. Data from the Department of Highways reveals a broader pattern, with 2,242 accidents occurring on Rama 2 Road over the past six years, leading to 132 deaths and 1,305 injuries. This pattern of accidents is not isolated to Rama 2, as similar incidents have been noted at other government construction sites.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Wanchai stressed the need for an urgent and comprehensive resolution to these systemic issues. He criticized the current state of safety management within government construction projects, citing ineffective safety protocols and substandard design and construction practices. The senator proposed the implementation of stringent safety standards across all construction work, supported by rigorous and continuous inspection to ensure compliance. He called for transparent and auditable government management practices, with appropriate penalties for non-compliance to enhance accountability in state construction projects.
