Shooting at Ice Hockey Rink in Powtucket Results in Multiple Casualties

Powtucket: Two people were killed and three injured in a shooting at an ice hockey rink in the United States. A shooting at an ice hockey rink in Powtucket, Rhode Island, on Monday afternoon local time, during a high school hockey game, resulted in at least two deaths and three injuries. The perpetrator subsequently committed suicide.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident saw twelve shots fired in quick succession, leading to panic among players and coaches who fled towards the exits. One player reportedly attempted to disarm the shooter in the stands. Among the victims, one person died at the scene while another succumbed to injuries at the hospital. Three more individuals suffered serious injuries from gunshot wounds.

Police indicated that the suspect likely died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after the attack, which appeared to be linked to a family conflict. However, the exact nature of the relationship between the perpetrator and the victims remains unclear. Investigations are ongoing to uncover further details. The school confirmed the safety of all participating athletes and suggested that the incident might involve a student's parent.

The tragic event occurred only kilometers away from Brown University, where a similar incident last December left two students dead and nine injured. In that case, the gunman, a 48-year-old former graduate student, committed suicide after being on the run for five days. Gun violence is a frequent occurrence in the United States, with data from a non-profit organization showing 41 incidents in the first 47 days of this year.
