Bangkok: Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkaew, during a visit to the Bhumjaithai Party headquarters, addressed speculations regarding his potential candidacy for prime minister. Upon inquiry, he clarified that he was merely there for a routine discussion and to take photographs for his Member of Parliament registration.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sihasak dismissed notions of political ambitions, stating, “I haven’t thought about that yet. Right now, I’m not thinking about politics. They called me to take a picture, so I came and took it.” He further downplayed any prospects of becoming a prime ministerial candidate for the Bhumjaithai Party, emphasizing his current role as the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
When questioned about his involvement with the Bhumjaithai Party, particularly in foreign policy matters, Mr. Sihasak affirmed a brief engagement. Additionally, when asked about potential leadership changes within the party, he expressed uncertainty, commenting, “I don’t know either. They asked me to take a picture, so I came to take a picture,” followed by a laugh.
Mr. Sihasak also addressed rumors about being invited by Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, to run as a prime minister candidate. He noted that there are already two candidates in consideration and reiterated his lack of immediate political aspirations, stressing that his visit was solely for the purpose of having his photo taken as requested.
