Vienna: Prime Minister Srisaket Sihasak recently engaged in discussions with high-level officials from Singapore and Sweden, focusing on global cooperation to combat fraud and cybercrime. The talks were held in the context of the Global Fraud Summit 2026, which took place in Vienna, Austria.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkaew, Minister of Foreign Affairs, initiated dialogues with key ministers from various countries during the summit. One of the significant meetings was with Ms. Charlotte Kugelberg, the Swedish Deputy Minister of Justice. Both parties underscored the critical need for international collaboration, particularly in tackling cybercrime, human trafficking, and forced labor. Ms. Kugelberg expressed her gratitude towards Thailand for its pivotal role in dismantling a transnational criminal network engaged in drug trafficking and money laundering and advocated for further collaborative efforts between Sweden and Thailand.
Additionally, Mr. Sihasak held discussions with Mr. Edwin Tong, Singapore's Minister of Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs. The two ministers shared insights on the complexities of cybercrime, exacerbated by the use of technology and artificial intelligence by transnational criminal organizations. They concurred on the necessity of strong political commitment, adherence to legal frameworks, and fostering international partnerships. This cooperation extends to engaging both public and private sectors such as telecommunications, finance, and social media companies to tackle these global challenges.
Moreover, the discussions highlighted the importance of sharing information and intelligence between Thai and Singaporean law enforcement agencies. Both countries are exploring the development of joint mechanisms to combat fraud and cybercrime on bilateral and regional levels, including within the ASEAN framework, which Singapore is set to chair in 2027. The goal is to enhance the efficacy of efforts to curb these crimes, leveraging the summit as a platform for strategic international cooperation.
