Bangkok: Silom Road is starting to get lively on its last day of Songkran. Silom Road was closed for the final day of Songkran celebrations, and was bustling with activity since noon. Locals and tourists began arriving with water-playing equipment, amidst strict security measures. The area is expected to be full of people by afternoon and evening.
According to Thai News Agency, the atmosphere on Silom Road, where the city is closed for the final day of Songkran celebrations, began to liven up around 12:30 PM. Large numbers of locals and foreign tourists gradually arrived in the area, most prepared with water guns and waterproof phone cases.
As soon as the road was closed, groups of tourists who had been waiting on the sidewalk began to move onto the road surface. Music from the shops lining the streets provided a fun atmosphere amidst the sweltering heat.
While security measures include checkpoints at the main entrances to check for alcohol and prohibit weapons and talcum powder from being brought into the area to maintain order, those planning to participate in the water festivities at Silom are advised to use the BTS Skytrain for convenience. It is expected that the number of people will increase until the area is full from afternoon to evening. Water festivities will be open until 9:00 PM.
