Bangkok: Interested buyers were met with a startling discovery while inspecting a house up for auction in San Phi Suea Subdistrict, Mueang Chiang Mai District. The Department of Legal Execution had announced the auction of the two-story wooden house, where potential buyers found dried-up skeletal remains on a bed covered with a mosquito net. The village headman was promptly notified, leading to police involvement.

According to Thai News Agency, the house, located near the Ban Tha Duea community market in Moo 6, was seized by the bank and put up for auction by the Department of Legal Execution. Despite being abandoned for several years, many belongings of the previous owners remained inside. The structure was originally a shop due to its proximity to the market, now drawing attention for its eerie contents.

Potential buyers were inspecting the ground floor when they discovered the skeletal remains beneath a mosquito net. The Mae Ping police, along with forensic experts from Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital, were called to the scene for evidence collection and further investigation. The remains have been sent for autopsy to identify them, ascertain the cause of death, and locate any relatives for necessary procedures.

Local residents informed authorities that the house was once owned by an elderly woman who lived there with her son. The pair was last seen by villagers 5-6 years ago before the house was bank-seized. It was believed that the elderly woman had relocated to Chiang Mai city with her son and relatives, which initially raised no suspicions.

Further investigations revealed the son is currently incarcerated in Tak Province. The elderly woman, approximately 93 years old, is suspected to be the skeleton discovered. Police are awaiting autopsy and identification results to confirm this hypothesis officially.
