Sangkhlaburi: Soldiers intercepted a pickup truck disguised with ice, revealing fuel hidden in the trunk, destined for Myanmar. The Surasee Task Force uncovered a smuggling operation with 1,260 liters of fuel concealed in the truck's trunk, intended for sale to Myanmar at 100 baht per liter.
According to Thai News Agency, Major General Natthapong Aswinwong, Commander of the 9th Infantry Division and Commander of the Surasee Task Force, worked in coordination with the Sangkhlaburi Police Station, Customs, Border Patrol Police, and local administration officials to strengthen efforts in intercepting fuel smuggling operations. These operations often involve concealing fuel among goods intended for export to neighboring countries.
On the evening of April 4, 2069, at 7:10 PM, a security checkpoint was established. Officers observed a suspicious pickup truck on Highway 323 near the Nam Krik intersection in Ban Songkaria, Sangkhlaburi District. Upon inspection, they discovered various goods, including ice, and found 42 gallons (1,260 liters) of gasoline hidden beneath bags of ice in the truck bed. The driver was detained, and the vehicle, fuel, and two mobile phones were confiscated. The suspect was turned over to investigating officers for prosecution under the Customs Act B.E. 2560 (2017).
During the initial investigation, the suspect admitted to purchasing the fuel in Sangkhlaburi district for 60 baht per liter. The fuel was then smuggled through natural border crossings to be sold in Myanmar for 100 baht per liter.
