Sophon Refutes Allegations of Delay in No-Confidence Debate Scheduling

Bangkok:Mr. Sophon Saram, President of the Parliament and Speaker of the House of Representatives, has addressed concerns regarding the scheduling of the no-confidence debate against Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's government. Allegations have surfaced suggesting a 60-day delay in the debate since the motion's submission.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sophon refuted these claims, asserting that the government was prepared for the debate from the outset. He clarified that it was the opposition that requested a postponement of the originally planned October 27-29 debate to November or December. The final dates were set for December 7-10, maintaining the original 4-day timeframe.

Mr. Sophon emphasized the government's readiness to engage in the debate within the agreed timeframe, countering accusations that the government was solely responsible for any delays. He expressed concern over misinformation, urging the public to avoid confusion and stating that speaking without facts benefits no one. As a legislator, he expressed his commitment to providing straightforward and unbiased information.

Additionally, he mentioned an agreement on the meeting's timeframe, which was initially set from 900 AM to midnight but has been extended to 72 hours, exceeding the original plan. Mr. Sophon also commented on the political climate, noting that the executive and legislative branches are functioning as expected in a democratic system. He called for genuine cooperation rather than adversarial interactions, highlighting the importance of scrutiny over mutual insults for the country's progress.
