Sports Authority of Thailand Approves Pickleball Association with Thaya as President

Bangkok: The Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) has officially approved the establishment of the Pickleball Association, appointing Thaya Teepsuwan as its president. This move aims to elevate the sport to a national level and foster its growth within the country.

According to Thai News Agency, the SAT registered the Pickleball Association on December 15th following efforts by the Thailand Pickleball Championship Group, chaired by Ms. Thaya Teepsuwan. The group’s persistent push for the sport’s recognition led to an initial application approval by the SAT in November, culminating in the establishment of the association with Ms. Thaya as its inaugural president.

Ms. Thaya expressed her gratitude to the SAT executives and committee for acknowledging pickleball’s potential. She emphasized that the sport is gaining popularity, is accessible to people of all ages, and has the potential for international expansion. She highlighted that the association’s official recognition is promising news for Thai pickleball players.

Throughout the years, the Thailand Pickleball Championship Group has been instrumental in advocating for the sport’s official status. The newly established association aims to develop the sport systematically and sustainably. Its primary objectives include creating a transparent sports management standard, providing a clear direction, and offering opportunities for Thai pickleball players to reach the national team level and represent Thailand in international competitions.

The association’s committee consists of prominent individuals from various sectors, including Pol. Gen. Charuwat Vaishya, Gen. Apisit Chainuwatt, Srirat Parapakham, and others. These individuals are committed to volunteering their efforts to drive and develop pickleball in Thailand for sustainable long-term growth.

Moving forward, the association plans to promote pickleball among the youth in all regions to ensure equal access. A pilot training program has been launched in Trang province, alongside ongoing social activities and tournament preparations. These tournaments aim to provide enjoyment, develop competitive skills domestically and internationally, and serve as a platform for scouting promising young players for the national team.

In the past, the Thailand Pickleball Championship group showcased its capability by organizing national and international competitions, notably the MLAB Thailand Pickleball Championship 2025 in Chonburi Province. This event, considered the largest pickleball tournament in Thailand, featured competitions on over 16 fields and attracted athletes from more than 15 countries worldwide.
