Srettha Advocates for Citizen Participation in Determining Nation’s Future

Bangkok: Former Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has made a fervent appeal to the citizens of the country, urging them to exercise their democratic rights to shape the nation's future. In a significant gesture, he also called on the new government to focus on invigorating the economy and enhancing citizens' incomes.

According to Thai News Agency, Srettha Thavisin arrived at polling station 15 in the Khlong Toei district to cast his vote in both the parliamentary election and the referendum. Accompanied by his dog, "Chaokui," Srettha was listed as voter number 152. After voting, he emphasized the importance of the day, highlighting that it was a pivotal moment for the nation where all citizens share equal rights. He encouraged everyone to vote for their preferred candidates to truly reflect the people's will. Additionally, he stressed the significance of participating in the referendum on the new constitution, urging citizens to express their stance, whether in agreement or disagreement.

In response to questions about the public's expectations from the new government, Srettha acknowledged the current economic challenges. He noted that it is customary for citizens to pin their hopes on the newly elected government to stimulate economic growth and increase disposable income. Srettha also shared his insights on voter turnout, mentioning that in 2023, approximately 70% of eligible voters participated. He expressed hope for an 80% turnout this time, emphasizing the importance of active citizen participation in the electoral process. He concluded by expressing his desire for this election to be as robust and transparent as the previous one.
