Bangkok: The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has added extra carriages to accommodate people returning to Bangkok during Songkran, emphasizing that safety will be ensured throughout the journey.
According to Thai News Agency, the SRT is fully prepared to manage the increased passenger volume from April 15-17, 2026, by adding extra carriages to busy trains. This measure aims to efficiently handle travel demands and ensure sufficient capacity during the post-festival period.
Due to the anticipated large number of passengers, the SRT has implemented enhanced safety measures, focusing on medical emergencies on board. Preparations include equipping trains with adequate medical equipment and personnel and establishing coordination systems for timely assistance. Passengers can report incidents through the SRT Customer Service hotline 1690, available 24 hours a day, ensuring rapid response and coordination in emergencies.
Additional staff will be assigned to trains to increase the frequency of onboard inspections. In emergencies, if passengers cannot contact staff, they can use the SRT hotline for immediate assistance. The Customer Service Center will collaborate with the Train Control Center and onboard personnel to inform the SRT medical unit, providing first aid advice and notifying the terminal station for patient arrival preparations.
In cases requiring medical transfer, the SRT will coordinate with the National Institute of Emergency Medical Services (hotline 1669) to arrange for an ambulance to be ready at the platform for immediate patient transfer upon the train's arrival.
The State Railway of Thailand reaffirms its commitment to offering the best service possible by adding extra carriages and upgrading safety measures. This ensures passengers can travel back to Bangkok conveniently, comfortably, and safely throughout their journey.
