Bangkok: The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has initiated a comprehensive search operation for a missing cat that disappeared during a journey on express train No. 170 from Yala to Bangkok Central Station. The Director of Public Relations at SRT, Mr. Methaphat Sunthornwaraphas, has assured the public that the railway is fully committed to resolving the situation and supporting the pet's owner.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred when a passenger traveling with the cat had to switch from a fan-cooled second-class sleeper carriage to an air-conditioned one due to technical issues. As regulations prohibit pets in air-conditioned carriages, the cat was placed in the baggage compartment with the owner's consent. Despite regular checks by the owner, the pet, which has limited mobility in its hind legs, was discovered missing as the train neared Lamae Station in Chumphon Province.
In response, the SRT has implemented several measures to locate the missing cat. Station staff from Lamae to Chumphon are reviewing CCTV footage for any leads, while civil engineering teams are meticulously searching the railway tracks and surrounding areas using Light Rail Vehicles. Additionally, the SRT is actively engaging with the local community by posting notices and coordinating with community leaders and local authorities.
The State Railway of Thailand has extended an apology for the incident and is determined to continue the search until the cat is found. The SRT is also reviewing the incident with relevant personnel to enhance safety measures for future journeys. The public is urged to report any sightings or information regarding the missing cat between Lamae and Chumphon stations to the Customer Service Center at 1690 or via the "Public Relations Team of the State Railway of Thailand" Facebook page.
