Chonburi: The State Railway of Thailand has reopened the Chonburi-Bang Phra section of the railway after urgently recovering the derailed freight train.
According to Thai News Agency, the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) reported progress regarding the derailment of freight train No. 845 near Chonburi Station in Chonburi Province. Following the mobilization of civil engineering and mechanical engineering personnel, along with heavy machinery, to recover the derailed wagons and repair the railway tracks, the Chonburi-Bang Phra section was reopened at 1:25 AM. After the reopening, the SRT dispatched freight train No. 554, on the Buayai Junction-Map Ta Phut route, from Si Racha Station at 1:30 AM, and it successfully passed the incident site.
The incident occurred at 1:24 PM on September 4, 2026, when freight train No. 845, traveling from Lat Krabang Inland Container Depot (ICD Lat Krabang) to Laem Chabang Port, was passing through a switch at Chonburi station. This resulted in the rear of six freight wagons derailing, obstructing both inbound and outbound train traffic on the Eastern Line. Fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities.
An initial inspection of the accident site revealed that seven out of eight guard rail bolts were missing, a possible anomaly related to the incident. However, the State Railway of Thailand is conducting a thorough technical investigation to confirm the true cause of the derailment.
The State Railway of Thailand places the highest priority on railway safety. The removal, destruction, or theft of railway equipment could pose a serious danger to train operations, as well as to the lives and property of the public. Therefore, relevant officials have been assigned to file complaints with local police investigators to investigate and prosecute the perpetrators according to the law.
