Nakhon ratchasima: Strict controls will be implemented for classifying athletes at the 13th ASEAN Para Games, to be hosted by Thailand in Nakhon Ratchasima from January 20-26, in order to maintain fairness established at the SEA Games.
According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Kongsak Yodmani, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), revealed the progress in hosting the 13th ASEAN Para Games, to be held from January 20-26, 2026, in Nakhon Ratchasima province. He stated that in addition to being a good host, welcoming athletes and officials from various countries, and preparing venues to meet standards, another crucial aspect of the competition is the classification of athletes' disabilities. He explained that experts have been trained to specifically oversee this sensitive matter, emphasizing strict adherence to regulations to ensure Thailand's hosting of the games is free from any accusations of unfair treatment.
'We want to build upon the fairness demonstrated at the 33rd SEA Games, which received great acclaim from member nations. All countries were satisfied with the high standards of judging in each sport under Thailand's hosting. Of course, in the ASEAN Para Games, the classification of disability levels is very complex. We have prepared experts to work on this aspect transparently, ensuring that this ASEAN Para Games will be fair and accepted by all nations, just like the SEA Games,' said Dr. Kongsak.
The 13th ASEAN Para Games, to be held from January 20-26, 2026 in Nakhon Ratchasima province, will feature 19 sports: athletics, archery, badminton, 5-a-side football, boccia, chess, cycling, 7-a-side football, goalball, judo, weightlifting, swimming, table tennis, sitting volleyball, shooting, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair fencing, wheelchair tennis, and bowling, with a total of 493 gold medals to be contested.
